Victoria Park's Spray Pad Now Open

The long-awaited new spray pad at Victoria Park opened last weekend, and the sun shelter is expected to open next weekend.

Consultation on the spray pad and shelter design began in 2021 with an online meeting, followed by a public survey.  The project was delayed a year when Indigenous artefacts were found on the grounds. These two elements mark the last pieces of the Victoria Park Master Plan, which began over a decade ago.

During the long-term plan, the playground was replaced and received two additional enhancements. A community garden was created and then expanded, as well as a gazebo, a fitness area, multi-use courts, enhanced lighting, and resurfaced pathways.

Victoria Park still has more to come outside of the master plan. The tennis courts will be resurfaced late this year.

National Indigenous People's Day June 21st

Westdale Cinema welcomes the community to join National Indigenous Peoples Day for an evening of music, dance, culture, and film as they celebrate our Indigenous community.

The evening will be capped off with a discussion panel about Indigenous art, identity, and the difficulties faced working towards the goal of Reconciliation. Hosted by Cher Obediah, the celebration features James Wilson, Spirit Vision Drum & Dancers, The Mohawk Singers, and the premiere screening of the short documentary film “Tecumseh”

The program begins at 7:30 PM, and admission is free.

Engaging with Pride

This Pride Season, the city's Public Engagement team is connecting with residents to better understand the role of PRIDE in shaping our inclusion and public engagement efforts. Diverse voices, perspectives, and experiences help shape City-led projects, policies, and initiatives that are reflective and inclusive of Hamiltonians who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. The team is launching our first-ever “Engaging with PRIDE” campaign to seek input from 2SLGBTQIA+ community members and residents to help create safer, brave, positive, and welcoming spaces to experience and participate in City-led public engagement. Share your story to shape our city. Head over to Engage Hamilton to share your voice.

Reuse Sheds

All Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) now have reuse sheds for Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) materials. The sheds have the same hours as the CRCs, however they will only operate from May until October. Residents can take up to 4 items/cans of paint/varnish/stain per day (regardless of size). Other items include fertilizers, adhesives, household cleaners, etc. All items are free and subject to availability.

Hamilton Water’s Annual Online Rain Barrel Sale Begins Monday, June 24.

Rain Barrels are a great way to capture water that normally would go into the sewer and divert rainwater to gardens and other outdoor uses. Rain Barrels also help with stormwater management by reducing the load on the sewer systems during heavy rainfall.

From Monday, June 24 to Sunday, July 21, residents can visit Hamilton Water's website at www.hamilton.ca/RainBarrelSale to order rain barrels.  The rain barrels offered as part of this sale are $70 each, with taxes included and free delivery.

Deliveries will begin after the sale closes on July 21. All deliveries will be completed no later than August 4, 2024.
